Gold price chart for 1997 shows that for most of the year the price of gold was declining. It continued its long-term downtrend. The yearly high was formed on January 2 at $366.60. Gold was declining until half of December. The yearly low was formed on December 12 at $284.80. Overall gold lost $79.30 (21.48%) in 1997. The final close of the year was $289.90.
