  • Oil Stocks – The Short-Term Consequences of The Long-Term Support

    August 8, 2014, 8:47 AM
    Oil Stocks – ...

Without a doubt, July was the worst month for crude oil since the beginning of the year. It spent months climbing slowly from the January low of $91.24 to the 2014 high of $107.68 and then the commodity gave up over 60% of earlier gains in just seven weeks. The latest round of selling triggered a sharp decline below the long- and medium-term support lines, the 200-day moving average and the psychological barrier of $100, which turned the medium- and the short-term outlook to bearish. Did oil stocks follow this decline? What is their current technical picture? If you want to know our take on these questions, we invite you to read our today's essay.

    August 8, 2014, 5:49 AM
    The QE Could ...

It is important to review the minutes released recently by the Fed, since they may well signal a turning point in monetary policy. The programs of active purchasing of government debt and commercial assets may be curtailed. Yet, as we have often discussed at length, it is not the most important element. There are other factors of monetary policy to be considered: interest rates for one, and the Federal Open Market Committee suggested they may start to discuss interest rate hikes. The so called taperie (small version of tapering) process discussed earlier in the Market Overview appears to be slowly finalizing. Will this be as much of an issue that everyone seems to think?

  • Forex Trading Alert: Dark Clouds Over AUD/USD

Later in the day, AUD/USD extended losses after the Labor Department said in its report that initial claims for jobless benefits in the week ending Aug. 2 fell by 14,000, beating analysts’ expectations for a 2,000 increase. Because of these numbers, the pair declined to the long-term support line. Will it be strong enough to stop currency bears’ charge?

Yesterday’s price action in the precious metals market was very specific. Gold declined very little, silver declined much more, and mining stocks moved a bit higher.
