Mining stocks going up on rising volume near the end of the session – is this a bullish signal?

December 10, 2010, 12:00 PM Przemysław Radomski , CFA

A few PM stocks appreciated on rising volume during the last hour of the trading session. What should I read into it? Could this be a bullish signal?

Generally yes, because it signals that the demand had picked up strongly and these stocks did not rise further just because the session had come to an end. Consequently, it will be likely that these stocks will rise at the beginning of the new session. Other implications would depend on the bigger picture - what type of stocks were they juniors or seniors? How did they perform previously relatively to other gold and silver stocks? What is the overall tendency in the precious metals market and other markets (currencies, main stock indices, other commodities), ratios, etc.?
